Things that can affect your internet connection
Physical Infrastructure
Examples include the length and quality of copper cabling used in a network, the capacity at your local exchange and the capacity of international cables.
Quality and capability of hardware
This can include modems, WiFi routers and Ethernet or phone cables. Older routers may not properly support modern services.
Number of connected devices
When too many devices share the same bandwidth, data flow is limited so your connection will run slower.
WiFi signal interference
You can learn how to improve your home or office’s WiFi signal here.
Network congestion
For example, when speeds slow during peak traffic in the evenings.
Which content is being accessed
There may be insufficient server or other issues affecting a specific website or online game.
Your broadband plan
Some plans may slow your connection if you use up all your data, and NBN™ plans have a range of speed tiers. Check NBN availability for your address to see if Liimitless data and/or NBN™ is available in your area.
